The No Child Left Behind Improvements Act of 2007

In the 110th Congress, Representative Don Young (R-AK) re-introduced legislation, the No Child Left Behind Improvements Act of 2007, H.R. 648 to strengthen accountability for improving the academic performance of children enrolled in the nation's public schools. Building on the major reforms of NCLB, H.R. 648 offers improvements that address many of the unintended consequences of the federal legislation while holding states and school districts accountable.

The Young bill fully tracks NSBA's draft legislation, and we are pleased to be working with Rep. Young to secure co-sponsors for this important bill. H.R. 648 contains more than forty provisions that focus on five areas: Assessments, Measuring Adequate Yearly Progress, Sanctions, State Flexibility by the U.S. Department of Education and Non-Public Schools.
