School Boards Commend Senator Crapo for New Education Legislation

Alexandria, Va. - November 20 - The National School Boards Association (NSBA) today praised Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID) for introducing legislation to strengthen the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). The bill, 4064, was introduced November 16, 2006.

"Senator Crapo has proposed major reforms to improve NCLB by giving local school districts greater flexibility in the area of supplemental services, sanctions and the determination of adequate yearly progress," said Jane Gallucci, NSBA president and a school board member from Pinellas County, Fla.

Crapo has also outlined other improvements in the law consistent with the proposed changes recommended by the National School Boards Association. The legislation preserves the goals of NCLB, while addressing the flaws in the current program.

"We commend Senator Crapo for his willingness to reach out to key stakeholders, including the Idaho School Boards Association, and for his leadership in his efforts to improve the law and the academic achievement of each student, regardless of English proficiency, economic or social status," Gallucci said.
