ED seeks advice from experts on improving assessments

The Department of Education (ED) will hold a series of public meetings to learn from assessment experts and practitioners. The Secretary of Education (Secretary) is holding these meetings in order to seek input relating to the development of a Race to the Top Assessment Competition. Each meeting will provide time for invited panelists to give input followed by an opportunity for members of the public who have registered to speak to offer input. The Secretary has said that up to $350 million will be reserved to support states that are working to create new assessments for K-12 that are tied to a common set of standards. The Secretary plans to announce the competition by March 2010. The meetings will take place in Boston, Atlanta, and Denver.
