Single-sex Programs

The Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has issued a "Dear Colleague" letter, below, reminding recipients of OCR’s new Title IX regulations on nonvocational single-sex classes, extracurricular activities, and schools at the elementary and secondary education levels. Title IX prohibits gender-based discrimination in federally funded education programs. In addition to highlighting some features of the new regulations, the letter also provides a dedicated e-mail address, T9singlesexTA@ed.gov, for submitting questions and requests for technical assistance in connection with these new requirements. This e-mail address will be in operation until December 31, 2007.
