Targeting Student Learning
Several state associations with many urban school districts are utilizing Targeting Student Learning to assist boards and superintendents to develop a more purposeful approach to policymaking that is focused on issues related to student learning. Under Targeting Student Learning there are eight broad policy areas that support student learning: board governance, academic standards and assessment, education program, curriculum, instruction, learning environment, professional standards, and parent/community engagement. Trainers from the Illinois Association of School Boards will address the school board’s role in student achievement by helping board members understand the link between policy and academic progress in a dynamic, interactive session.
