CUBE Issues Seminar

Dates: June 25-28, 2009
Location: Chicago, IL
Topic: Urban Reforms Shaping Federal Education Policy

The Issues Seminar covered:
  • how urban school districts are financing education reforms in the current economic climate;
  • a new Federal role in education;
  • national implications of key Chicago Public School reforms; and
  • the role of Advanced Placement (AP)and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs in urban school reform.

CUBE’s Issues Seminar featured two special school board professional development opportunities —a leadership workshop focused on developing new principal leadership for urban schools, and CUBE’s Conversation on Race series focused on alternative options to race-based school assignments available to school board members.

The seminar also provided:
  • many informal opportunities for professional development;
  • the popular district workshop session focusing on ensuring access to AP and IB programs for underrepresented students;
  • sessions sponsored by the CUBE Communications and Urban Student Achievement Task Forces;
  • and Reginald Felton, NSBA’s Director for Federal Relations, will provide a Federal advocacy briefing.
