CUBE Urban Programming (held in conjunction with NSBA's 70th Annual Conference)

Dates: April 9-11, 2010
Location: Chicago, IL
Topic: Charter Schools, and Educating Black Male Students

Urban school board members are closely monitoring the national debate over the promise and limitations of charter schools and their impact on school systems. The U.S. Department of Education is strongly promoting charter schools as a reform model, while calling for greater charter accountability. Participants at CUBE's Urban Programming discussed how school districts are handling their relationships with charter schools, authorizing and oversight responsibilities, engaging in policy debates over the role of charter schools, and considering the potential for traditional schools to benefit from the experience of charter schools.
