Join a Caucus

Caucus membership is open to anyone interested in meeting and addressing the educational needs of racial and ethnic students in our communities.  Members of the Caucus represent many of the largest and most populated urban school districts as well as some of the most expansive and rural school districts in the nation. They are called upon to work to promote equal educational opportunities for students within identified racial and ethnic groups—to monitor the developmental and academic achievement of children—and address the concerns, unique challenges and opportunities faced by school board members working with these issues throughout the country.

There are many benefits associated with Caucus Membership, including:

  • Connections to an Expanded Advocacy Network
Opportunities include being looped in to NSBA Call to Action activities designed to connect with your representatives on important national issues that impact the students you serve.  The Caucuses have also formed strong connections and partnerships with other national organizations--such as the National Alliance of Black School Educators, the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, the National Indian Education Association, and the Campaign for High School Equity—all of whom are committed to serving the interests and tackling the challenges of students within ethnic and racial demographics.

  • Learning Opportunities & Networking
Caucus membership affords an opportunity to dialogue with other school board members who share their focus on effective school board leadership, student achievement, and equity for all students in our public education system.  Programming through Annual Conference programming and webinars provides access to thought leaders and success stories on cutting edge efforts to improve outcomes for students across the country.

  • Timely Information on National Issues
Publications such as the quarterly Caucus Newsletter and email-blast information are provided to Caucus members so that they can stay abreast of issues and be a stronger leaders and advocates for students.  Caucus members are also provided with special reports and alerted to   other meetings and events that address the issues and challenges faced by the students they serve.
