Announcing the Technology Leadership Network Virtual Roundtables

We believe  that some of the best learning comes from conversations with your peers.  To help promote those conversations, we have created a new monthly program called TLN Virtual Roundtables.  Suhail Faroogui from K12 Insights, Inc. will lead a discussion on the first of these roundtables on Mastering Stakeholder Relations in Difficult Times. Polls  show declining support for funding public education.  Research shows that such critics capatilize on communication vacuums in districts. This roundtable will explore some ways that you can fill that vacuum and change the conversation.  This is a roundtable not a presentation so your input is essential. What have you done to overcome this problem?  What has worked?  What has failed and why? Suhail will help you work through these challenges.

When: March 22 at 3:00 PM ET.

Cost: Free to TLN participants

Limited to 14 Registrations - Filled on a first come basis.

Contact: Gene Broderson gbroderson@nsba.org to sign up and receive registration information.

Free for all K-12 educators!

Where: Renton, WA - Connecting the Dots 2011

When: April 13, 2011

Today’s education landscape is constantly evolving.  To positively affect student achievement, educators must adapt to challenges and plan strategically.

Connecting the Dots allows attendees to learn from each other and investigate some of the hot issues in education.  Attendees will rotate through 35 minute discussions and share challenges, information, ideas and best practices with their peers from around the region.

This event will also feature a special keynote to help you better understand the demographics of your region and how that information will shape the needs of the area education organizations in the months and years to come.

More than just a briefing, this fast paced planning session will convene K-12 district and Department of Education leaders to discuss, reflect, and prepare for what is to come.

You are invited to participate in roundtable group discussions on topics such as:

  • Classroom Technologies
  • Campus Infrastructure
  • Funding Challenges and Opportunities
  • Professional Development
  • Social Media
  • Online Learning and Digital Content

This completely interactive event will further examine these issues and explore new ways to align educational strategic planning, technology, and available funding resources.

  March TLN Webinar

Title:  New Technology Tools for Literacy
Date:  Tuesday, March 15, 2011
Time:  3:00PM-4:00PM ET

Description:  One of the most persistent crises in education, and a critical filter in narrowing or widening the achievement gap, is the 4th-grade reading hurdle. A number of new technology-based environments and tools can provide elementary school students with more engaging and effective ways to practice the language arts of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Milton Chen, senior fellow at The George Lucas Educational Foundation and author of Education Nation: Six Leading Edges of Innovation in our Schools, will introduce this topic. Two district technology directors and Apple Distinguished Educators, Joe Morelock of Canby, Oregon, and Kathy Shirley of Escondido, California, will describe their work in creating the iRead project, using iPod Touches and iTunes to share students' reading performances with teachers, peers, and parents. In 2010, the project received a Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Association.
