District Salute Nominations

Each year, NSBA honors three school districts for their technology achievements through the Technology Leadership Network Salute program. Salute Districts are excellent examples of the good things that can happen when  technology efforts are well executed. Collaboration and teamwork, continuous improvement, and the seamless integration of technology across the curriculum as a resource for all students are common themes. Entering districts must be current participants in good standing of the Technology Leadership Network.

Tell Us Your Story and Submit Your District to Be Considered for the 2009 District Salutes....

It is safe to assume that most everyone believes that professional development is a critical ingredient of the success formula for school districts and the students they serve. The world is changing all around us; new tools are available to increase student and teacher success, to help administrators discover the resources they need to lead their schools and districts, and provide school board members with the skills to govern their districts. Marilyn Chapman, a Killam Teaching Award winner, said:

I can make a difference in my work with prospective teachers and create a ‘ripple effect’ in education. This means I have a responsibility to be a role model as a scholar, a teacher, and mentor to help my students implement informed and thoughtful teaching practices, build communities of inquirers in their classrooms and schools, and become lifetime learners through ongoing professional development and study.

In this issue of the Electronic School eZine we will focus on the professional development and the role it plays in the success of a school district. Our lead article is from Sheryl Abshire and the staff of the Calcasieu Parish School District in Lake Charles, La. The school district has been a Technology Leadership Network Salute district. You’ll learn about their focus on providing professional development resources in order to change the direction of their district. Throughout the eZine you will see information about resources that will make a difference in your professional development efforts.

Make sure that you visit the TLN Learning Portal for access to valuable professional development resources at discounted rates for Technology Leadership Network school districts. We also want to thank you for reading the Electronic School eZine. You are part of a rapidly growing audience that has doubled in the last six months.
